What is demodulator Channel 16 used for and how I configure it?

The LD2 firmware stores a list of the geo-stationary satellites which are used to deliver the VERIPOS correction data. It also stores the associated frequencies and data rates.

The user can normally select a satellite simply by choosing its name from a list.

Channel 16 is included to allow the user to manually enter satellite parameters. This is only necessary if changes are made to the satellite constellation after the firmware is issued.

Configure Satellite Parameters in Channel 16

Repeatedly press the *Page* key until the screen below is displayed:

Press *Enter* key to display the screen below:

Press *Enter* key and then the *Page* key. This will display the screen below:

25E expressed in Roman numerals - numbers are not available

Press the *Enter* key again and the first character of the name is highlighted. Use the *Toggle* key to step through the letters of the alphabet. When the correct character is display, press the *Enter* key which steps on to the next letter. The maximum length of the name is restricted to 8 characters.

After the eighth letter, or blanks have been entered, press the *Enter* key the display moves on to the Frequency selection display shown below:

Press the *Enter* key again and the first number of the frequency is highlighted. Using the *Toggle* and *Enter* keys as before, set the required new frequency. (The example shows a frequency of 1537460000Hz.)

After the last number, has been set, press the *Enter* key.  The display moves on to the Data Rate display shown below:

The display moves on to the Data Rate display

Press the *Enter* key again to move the cursor to the right of “Data Rate:”

If necessary, press the *Toggle* key to select the required data rate. (The rate is normally 1200bps).

Press the *Enter* key to confirm the choice.

Press the *Page* key repeatedly to return to the main menu.

This completes the entry of the satellite information into Channel 16. It is now necessary to select this channel:

The “>” indicates that this beam is selected.

Note:

  1. After a few seconds, the “Sync” indicator should illuminate to confirm that the demodulator is locked to the satellite.
  2. It is good practice to check the signal level from the Status/Demodulator menu.
  3. Once new beam has been selected it may take up to 20 minutes for a new station list to populate.
  4. After waiting for the station list to populate, the user should configure port P2 and/or P4 to enable the required reference stations. (Configure/Serial Ports)
