How do I interface my antennas to the LD6?

Combined GNSS/L-band Antenna

If a combined GNSS/L-band antenna is used, it must be connected to the RF INPUT socket on the LBAND LBR1 module. The antenna cable must be terminated with an N Type plug.

The RF INPUT socket of the GNSS module must then be connected to the RF OUTPUT socket on the LBAND LBR1 module using a short coaxial cable with TNC plugs on both ends (the terminator plug must first be removed from the RF OUTPUT socket).

Power for the combined antenna will be supplied from the LBAND LBR1 module. The antenna power is enabled or disabled using the touch screen menus. The appropriate menu is accessed by pressing the LBAND button on the home screen

Note: In this configuration, the antenna power setting under the GNSS button will have no effect. It should normally indicate "Antenna is off".

Separate GNSS and L-band antennas

Where separate antennas are used, a separate antenna cable will be connected to each module.

The GNSS antenna cable must be terminated with as TNC plug and connected to the RF INPUT socket on the GNSS module.

The L-band antenna cable must be terminated with an "N" Type plug and connected to the RF INPUT socket on the LBAND LBR1 module. The RF OUTPUT socket of the LBAND LBR1 module must be fitted with the supplied terminator plug (failure to fit the terminator will degrade signal quality).

Each module will supply power to its associated antenna. The power is turned on/off using the touch screen menus with separate controls accessed via the LBAND and GNSS buttons on the home page.

It will be necessary to turn the power on when a module is directly connected to a dedicated antenna. It may be necessary to turn the power off if antenna splitters are used or if the L-band signal is supplied from an Inmarsat system.

MF Antenna (if installed)

A separate antenna is required for the reception of MF signals. The LD6 cannot use the same antenna to provide MF and GNSS signals (or MF and L-band signals) unless an external splitter is used. The antenna cable must be terminated with a TNC plug and connected to the RF INPUT socket on the BEACON module.

The antenna power from this module is turned on or off using touch screen menus which are accessed by pressing the MF button on the home page.
